Men's Soccer Opens Season at No. 10 Seton Hall

8.25.21 | Men's Soccer

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple men's soccer team opens the 2021 season on Saturday, Aug. 28 as they travel to South Orange, N.J. to face the Seton Hall Pirates. The 6:56 p.m. match will be broadcast live on FloSports.

SEASON OPENER
> Thursday's match will serve as the 2021 season opener for both teams.
> This season is coming only four months after the 2020-21 campaign ended. This is the shortest regular-season turnaround in Temple men's soccer history.

THE OWL POST
> Temple returns the core of a powerhouse offense from last season, with only one goal-scorer departing the team. Last year, the Owls finished second in the American in goals scored (17).
> This year, all Temple men's soccer student-athletes will not advance in terms of eligibility class due to a blanket waiver granted by the NCAA. For example, if a student-athlete was a sophomore last season, they will remain listed as a sophomore this season.
> The Owls add 14 newcomers to the roster this season, including eight freshmen and six transfers. This class hails from five different states and three different countries
> The squad is led by head coach Brian Rowland, who is in his fourth season guiding Temple men's soccer.

SCOUTING SETON HALL
> 2020-21 saw Seton Hall make the NCAA tournament for the first since 2005. The Pirates advanced to Elite Eight, where they fell 2-0 to Indiana.
> Last season was one of the best seasons in program history for the Pirates. Seton Hall finished the season ranked ninth in the coach's poll, won the BIG EAST title, and tied their highest NCAA tournament finish ever.
> Seton Hall returns highly touted defender Luca Dahn. Dahn was a superstar in 2020-21, scoring twice and passing for five assists on the way to earning First Team All-BIG EAST honors, as well as Second Team All-America honors.

SERIES HISTORY vs. SETON HALL
> Temple is 1-3 in the all-time series against Seton Hall.
> Despite being located only 71 miles apart, the programs last met 33 years ago in 1988. The Pirates took that match-up by a score of 5-1.
