Volleyball to Open Conference Play

PHILADELPHIA - After a month of non-conference competition in four tournaments, the Temple volleyball team will hit the road to open American Athletic Conference play at SMU and Memphis.
Owl About Temple
This season, Temple is off to a 4-7 start. The Owls have most recently seen wins over Penn (3-1) and Lehigh (3-0). In the final tournament of the season, Temple went 1-2 with losses to Princeton (1-03) and Villanova (2-3). Gem Grimshaw has been a force this season, being named to the All-Tournament after the first three tournaments. Miray Bolukbasi, Katerina Papazoglou, and Kayla Spells have also been tabbed.
Gem Grimshaw leads the Owls' offense on the right side with 3.67 kills per set, she also adds 2.70 digs per frame to rank second on the team. Miray Bolukbasi (2.84 k/s) and Katerina Papazoglou (1.56 k/s) also provide offense from the outside. In the middle, Taylor Davenport averages 1.32 kills per set, with a team-leading 1.16 blocks per frame. Patrycja Zielinska distributes the offense to the tune of 8.0 assists per set, while Falanika Danielson leads the team with 4.47 digs per set.Â

> SMU is 5-6 on the season, topping Memphis 3-0 in its conference opener earlier this week.
> The Mustangs are on a two-match winning streak, taking TCU in a 3-2 match on the road.
> The team is led offensively by Alex Glover who is tied for first place in the league in hitting percentage (.414) and Kaylyn Winkler with a .373 hitting percentage. Winkler is third in the AAC with 1.21 blocks per set.

> Temple and SMU have met 12 times, and the Owls hold a slight 5-7 advantage.
