Gawronski and Griffith Named to Weekly Honor Roll

IRVING, Texas- After earning a 0-0 draw against Big Ten opponent Rutgers and a 3-1 victory over the Manhattan Jaspers, goalkeeper Eoin Gawronski and forward Nigel Griffith have been named to the American Athletic Conference weekly honor roll. For Gawronski, it is the latest in an avalanche of accolades this season, while it is first award of the season for Griffith who earned AAC All-Rookie honors last year.
Gawronski starred yet again against Rutgers. The keeper earned his fourth career clean sheet in only nine starts against the Scarlet Knights, turning away three shots during the match. His true starring moment came in overtime, where he saved what would've been a game-winning penalty kick for the second match in a row. He is believed to be the first-ever player in NCAA history to save back-to-back penalty kicks in overtime. He added one save against the Jaspers. Gawronski leads the American in saves and goals-against average among players who have appeared in more than one match.
Griffith powered Temple's offensive outburst against Manhattan. The forward scored the first goal of the season after forcing a turnover deep in the Jasper end of the pitch. He later found a streaking Mike Eijgendaal who worked his way behind the defense and slammed the ball home for Temple's third goal of the match. Griffith scored the first goal and passed for the first assist of the season for the Owls.
Temple (1-0-2) will be back in action Saturday at 7 p.m. as they host Villanova (2-1-0) in a Philly Soccer Six showdown. The match will be streamed on ESPN+, admission is free to all spectators.
