Temple Student-Athletes Earn High Marks in Fall Semester

PHILADELPHIA – Temple University student-athletes continued to excel in the classroom as evidenced by the combined 3.16 cumulative grade point average earned by the Owls' 19 varsity sports teams during the Fall 2021 semester.
It marks the 14th straight semester Temple student-athletes have earned over a 3.10 combined GPA, while being enrolled in 110 different academic majors/programs. It is also the 20th straight semester grade point average above a 3.00.
"I want to congratulate our student-athletes on their continued dedication to success in the classroom," said Temple University Vice President and Director of Athletics Arthur Johnson. "Their hard work, coupled with the incredible support provided by Justin Miller and his academic staff as well as our coaches, is something we take great pride in at Temple University. As in sports, academic success is a team effort, and I am so pleased we have a winning team in place to succeed where it matters most."
Sixteen of Temple's 19 varsity sports posted a combined semester GPA above a 3.00 led by women's gymnastics and men's tennis, which earned combined GPAs of 3.56 and 3.55, respectively, while 13 programs compiled a 3.30 or above semester GPA.
Seventeen of 19 Temple teams have cumulative grade point averages over 3.00 with men's cross country (3.63 GPA) and women's fencing (3.60 GPA) topping the list.
Nearly 66 percent of Temple's student-athletes (356 total) earned a 3.0 grade point averages in the fall semester, marking the eighth consecutive semester above 65 percent. Three programs - men's tennis (100%), women's gymnastics (92%) and field hockey (90%) - had 90% or more of their roster earn a semester GPA of 3.0 or above.
Six teams increased their cumulative GPAs from the spring 2021 semester - men's basketball, men's crew, field hockey, women's soccer, women's tennis and women's volleyball.
