Women’s Tennis Set to Open Season at VCU

PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's tennis is set to open their 2022 slate against VCU on the road. The match is set for Friday, Jan. 21 at 3:00 p.m at the Thalhimer Tennis Center in Richmond, Va.

The Owls

Last year, the Cherry and White posted a 9-2 record, including a perfect 5-0 home performance along with three sweeps.
Despite their early success, the Owls season was cut short after facing five cancelations, due to COVID-19 protocols.
The Owls bring back seven returners while welcoming two newcomers in freshman Veronika Kulhava and senior transfer, Jamie Wei.
The Cherry and White bounced back into action this fall, finding its most notable performance in the doubles pair of Wei and Kulhava. The pair advanced to the quarterfinals of the ITA Regional tournament, falling just short of punching a ticket to Super Regionals.
Just days before the match, the pair were selected as Lucky Losers and given the chance to compete at Super Regionals, advancing to the quarterfinals once again before dropping to city rival, Penn.

Scouting VCU

Last year, VCU posted a 14-10 record, including a perfect 5-0 conference performance to lead the Rams to their third straight Atlantic 10 Title.
The Rams advanced to the NCAA tournament, where they faced No. 6 NC State in the first round, dropping 4-0.
The Rams opened their 2022 season at Furman on Saturday, Jan. 15 where they dropped to 0-1 on the season after a 5-2 defeat.
On an individual level, graduate student Paola Exposito Diaz-Delgado ranked No. 61 in the ITA Singles Top 125 Rankings as of mid-December.

Match Notes
The Owls are 1-10 all time against the Rams with their last meeting coming in 2020. The Owls put up a tough fight, but ultimately dropped 4-0.
