Lacrosse Ranked in Inaugural IWLCA/Inside Lacrosse Poll
1.31.22 | Women's Lacrosse
PHILADEPHIA- The Temple lacrosse team is ranked in the first-ever edition of the IWLCA/Inside Lacrosse joint coaches and media poll, coming in at No. 22 in the preseason edition. The team was also considered in the US Lacrosse Magazine preseason rankings. Temple was last ranked in the formerly separate IWLCA coaches' poll and the Inside Lacrosse media poll at the conclusion of last season.
The Owls made a name for themselves last season with a 13-6 record. They claimed their highest-ranked win in Howarth Field history with a 12-8 win over No.12/11 Towson and went on to earn a 7-3 record in the American Athletic Conference. Temple defeated fellow NCAA tournament squad Vanderbilt, 16-11, in the American semifinals for a runner-up finish in the AAC. The Owls went to earn their first NCAA tournament appearance since 2008 and bested No. 18 UMass to win their first tournament game since 1998.
The team returns several key pieces from last year's squad as they look to improve on last season, headlined by First-Team All-Conference selection Belle Mastropietro. Temple also returns eight players who started at least eight games and six that started at least 18.
Four opponents on the Owls' slate are also ranked in the preseason poll. Temple will travel to No. 15 Princeton on 2/26, and play host to No. 17 Rutgers on 3/9. Later that month the Cherry and White will hit the road again to face No. 3 Syracuse on 3/26 before seeing its final preseason-ranked matchup of the year in No. 7 Florida.
No. 22 Temple will open their season on Saturday, Feb. 12 for their first-ever meeting with the Army Black Knights. Attendance to the Temple Sports Complex is free for all fans. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
