The Owls Improve to 6-2 in five-set matches this season

TAMPA, FLA. – The Temple Owls pulled out their sixth five-set victory this season on Sunday at USF as they came from behind to defeat the Bulls, 25-21, 19-25, 17-25, 28-26, 15-12 for their first AAC road win this season. The win improves the Owls to 8-11 overall and 2-6 in the American, while the Bulls drop to 7-11 overall and 1-5 in conference play.

The Cherry and White duo of Taylor Davenport and Peyton Boyd combined for 33 kills to help Temple to its fifth win in the last six matches against UCF.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Sophomore Taylor Davenport led the match with 20 kills, 10 of which came in the final two sets.
Redshirt senior Peyton Boyd recorded her seventh double-digit kill match for the Owls, with 13, six of which came over the last two sets.
Freshman Samantha Jo Mikosky helped the Owls defense hold USF to a .155 hitting percentage with a match-high nine blocks.
Temple had six players with an ace on the afternoon, including a match-high three from junior Jelena Prolic.

Set 1 (Temple 25, USF 21)

After 4-1 start from USF, the Owls chipped away at the Bulls advantage with the help of four straight points and two services aces by Prolic. The Owls took a 7-5 lead and never looked back.
Davenport and Boyd connected with three kills apiece in the opening set.
Both teams struggled offensively with Temple hitting .091, while USF hit .057.

Set 2 (USF 25, Temple 19)

Temple built a 12-9 advantage, but USF scored three unanswered points to tie the set 12-12, with the help of a pair of kills from Amanda DeWitt.
Both teams traded points, but the Bulls pulled away and won, 25-19, winning seven of the last nine points, while six different UCF players had a kill in that span.
Davenport (4) was one of two Owls to have three or more kills in the set, while Marta Cvitkovic (4) led three Bulls players with three or more kills in the set.

Set 3 (USF 25, Temple 17)

The Bulls controlled the third set throughout, hitting a match-best .382.
Five USF players had three or more kills in the set, led by Makayla Washington with four kills on 10 swings, hitting .400.

Set 4 (Temple 28, USF 26)

Mikosky helped the Owls jump on the Bulls early in the set with a four-point advantage (8-4) with three block assists.
With the Cherry and White up by four, UCF cut the deficit to a one-point (15-14) as they scored four of the next five points. UCF's Kelsey O'Loughlin had a pair of aces to assist in run.
South Florida tied the score at 17 and then took a 23-18 lead with a pair of Cvitkovic kills.
Temple fought off match point (24-23) and won the set 28-26.
In the final Owls' 11 points, Davenport had four of her five kills.

Set 5 (Temple 15, USF 12)

Davenport started where she left off in the previous set as she led the Owls with three kills, putting Temple ahead 8-5.
Temple would not trail or be tied in the final stretch of the fifth set. Davenport had kills on the final two scores for her team.
