Volleyball Closes Out Season With Loss to Cincinnati

CINCINNATI, OHIO – The Temple volleyball team closed out the 2022 season with a 17-25, 16-25, 22-25 loss to the Cincinnati Bearcats on Saturday afternoon. The Owls end the season, falling to 10-21 overall and 7-13 in AAC play, while Cincinnati improved to 11-19 overall and 9-11 in conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Cincinnati's Abby Walker led all players with 12 kills, while no other player in the contest recorded double-digit kill matches.
- The Bearcats hit .291 in the win, while the Owls hit .121.
- Cincinnati had six service aces in the match victory.
- Jelena Prolic led the Owls with eight kills, while fellow Cherry and White teammate, Kayla Spells had a strong match with seven kills and hit a team-high .467.
Set 1 (Cincinnati 25, Temple 17)
- Temple forced the Bearcats into a quick timeout as they got out to a fast start with a 4-0 and then 7-1 behind a pair of kills from Peyton Boyd and one each from Prolic and Spells.
- After the timeout, Cincinnati scored eight of the next 11 points as Walker (3) and Carly Glendining (2) combined for five kills in that span.
- Cincinnati's Payton Frederick ran off six straight points with her serve, while Walker added two more of her seven kills in the set.
- UC hit .433 in the set win as it recorded 16 kills on 30 attempts with three errors.
Set 2 (Cincinnati 25, Temple 16)
- The Bearcats led from start to finish, holding Temple to an .083 hitting percentage.
- Temple did not get on track in the set as it had nine kills on 36 attempts with six errors.
- Cincinnati's Cailea Carrier led all hitters in the second set with six kills on seven attempts, hitting .857.
Set 3 (Cincinnati 25, Temple 22)
- The Owls played strong defensively in the final set as it recorded six team blocks, while freshman Samantha Jo Mikosky added four block assists.
- With the Cincinnati leading 7-3, TU's Taylor Davenport reeled off four straight points from the service line, including her 26th service ace of the year. Prolic earned back-to-back blocks from to tie the set at 7-7.
- Neither team would control the lead by more than two points during the middle part of the set until Cincinnati went up, 23-20.
- Peyton Boyd helped a thwart a pair of set points with her sixth kill of the match, but Owls couldn't extend the set.
- The set featured nine ties and four lead changes.
