Battle, Miller Lead Men’s Basketball over Drexel, 73-61

11.27.22 | Men's Basketball

PHILADELPHIA – Khalif Battle scored a game-high 25 points and drained two of his five three-pointers in a decisive 15-point run to lift Temple (3-4) to a 73-61 win over Drexel (3-4) at the Liacouras Center Sunday afternoon.

Battle was nine-of-16 from the field and five-of-nine from long range while also pulling down a game-high seven rebounds.  Hysier Miller added 20 points and dished a game-high seven rebounds while Jamille Reynolds, who left the game late in the second half with a leg injury, added 10 points.

Amari Williams led Drexel with 18 points while Justin Moore added 14.

First Half
> After both teams struggled at the start, Miller drained a three and Battle added a basket to put the Owls ahead 9-4.  Two minutes later Damian Dunn converted a three-point play to extend the advantage to seven, 14-7, with 12:27 on the clock.
> Drexel then went on a 12-5 run to tie the game at 19 on a Luke House hook shot, but a three by Miller and a Nick Jourdain dunk off a feed from Battle put the Owls back on top (24-19) and forced a Drexel timeout with 7:12 to play in the half.
> Temple would extend the lead to double figures as Miller found Zach Hicks for three at the top of the key to make it 31-21 with 4:46 remaining.
> Drexel would whittle away at the deficit, cutting it to four with a 5-0 run in the final two minutes to make it a 35-31 contest at the half.

Second Half
> Following the first media timeout, Drexel would score six straight capped by a Justin Moore jumper to take a 43-41 lead and force a Temple timeout at the 14:35 mark.
> That would mark the first of five lead changes over the next three minutes as the teams battled back and forth.
> Battle drained a deep three off a pass from Miller to put Temple up 51-49.  Then Miller drained a one-handed shot in traffic to make it 53-49 and force a Drexel timeout.
> Drexel tied the game on two free throws by Williams at 53 after Reynolds left the game with a right leg injury.
> After Washington drained a three to give the Dragons a 56-55 lead, Temple ran off 15 straight points, including six by Battle, to take a commanding 70-56 lead with 2:09 remaining.
> Drexel finally ended to run on Moore three with 1:15 remaining.

Game Notes
> Miller was one point shy of tying his career high of 21 points set against Tulane in the AAC Tournament last year.
> Temple shot 56.3 percent from both the field (27-48) and three-point range (9-16), and 90.9 from the line (10-11).
> It was the Owls fifth straight win over the Dragon, and 13th in the last 14 meetings in the series.
