Temple University Athletics

Staff Spotlight: Paige Wisehaupt
12.20.22 | General
Paige Wisehaupt, who was named Director of Creative Video in January 2022, has extensive experience in the video and digital production field. Prior to Temple she spent two and a half years at Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, serving as the sole videographer and overseeing all facets of video production, ranging from content development to production filming, directing, and editing.Â
In addition to her experience at Alex's Lemonade Stand, Wisehaupt has extensive experience in the Philadelphia video production market, serving on the gameday production staff for both the Philadelphia Eagles and Villanova Wildcats. At Lincoln Financial Field, Wisehaupt operated and monitored ads and promos on the concourse level televisions, as well as 100 static and live ads on the in-stadium ribbon. At Villanova, Wisehaupt was a camera operator, clips operator and also performed in-stadium instant replays for live broadcast and in-venue video board shows.
Â
Wisehaupt, a 2019 graduate of Penn State University, received her bachelor's degree in Film/Video and Spanish with minors in Media Studies and Global and International Studies. At Penn State, she served as a Videographer Intern at the Penn State Student Engagement Network. In this role, Wisehaupt filmed and edited short documentaries to highlight fellow actively engaged students in the Penn State campus community. Paige also worked for Penn State Athletics as a Live Video Production Intern as a camera, clips and instant replay operator.
Talk about your background and how that helped prepare you for your current position as Director of Creative Video at Temple?
"I was a film video major in college. I was also a Spanish major, studied abroad, and minored in media studies and global international studies. So, I did a lot in college, but it was not until my last semester that I started to focus on sports. That semester I did an internship with Penn State Athletics doing live production, which I had never done. I was able to work in the control room for basketball, hockey, gymnastics, wrestling, and lacrosse. Although I had attended many sporting events at Penn State, that was my first experience working in sports. It was fascinating to see behind the scenes of all these different sporting events. I never planned on working in sports, but I had played sports my whole life so I should have known how enjoyable it would be for me.
I had also interned with Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation the summer before my senior year. At the end of my internship, they offered me a full-time position. So, I said yes and worked there from the summer of 2019 until I started at Temple in 2022. I oversaw everything that involved videos for the organization from
promotion videos to event recaps to longer form documentary videos as I was the only videographer on staff. Â
I also worked with the Philadelphia Eagles as a Game Day staff member in the control room since the fall of 2019. Through my experience there I was able to learn how a live video board show is run, everything from marketing and event promotions to understanding the strategy behind replays and camera work. I think my experience with the Eagles allowed me to understand and relate to my co-workers who work in marketing and live production here at Temple.
My experience with Alex's Lemonade Stand helped me learn how to edit and tell stories. Since I was the only Videographer, I was constantly forced to learn and grow as a creative professional. I also helped to create content for social media and even launched and ran the ALSF TikTok account. Then my experience with the Eagles helped me learn how I would be able to utilize my video skills in a sports setting. The combination of both experiences put me in a great position for my role at Temple.
You started working in Athletics and then went to Alex's Lemonade Stand? What was the reason you returned and why Temple?
"I truly enjoyed my time working at Alex's Lemonade Stand, but I wanted to challenge myself in a new setting. I loved when I was working in sports, with the Eagles, with Penn State and even at Villanova for an internship. I think those experiences re-ignited my interest and passion in sports again and this role at Temple is a combination of the things I was able to do at Alex's Lemonade Stand, but with sports teams. I knew I had the skill set to put me in a position to succeed in this role.Â
I have a lot of friends and family that went to Temple, so I had been to campus before and always enjoyed my time here. I actually applied and was accepted to Temple while I was in high school, and I was really considering it because I loved the city of Philadelphia, but as a lifelong Penn State fan, I ultimately decided to attend Penn State. I am happy that my path brought me back to Temple because it's an awesome place to be. State College is great, but I think I am a city girl at heart. I love living and working in a city that has so much to do."Â Â
What is the most challenging aspect of your position?
"Overseeing our two full-time staff members, Tim McCall and Andrew Kim, who are amazing professionals, and coordinating their schedules along with our eight student interns. It is challenging to coordinate the scheduling staff to cover all 19 sports, which includes games, practices, interviews, photoshoots, video shoots, guest speakers and so much more. Making sure each shoot has the right equipment and making sure we schedule it properly. There are often conflicting events and shoots, so it is my job to make sure that everyone on my team has what they need to do their job and succeed."
What do you enjoy the most about your work?
"I honestly love my job. I love going to work every day and the people I work with. Our team is great. We started as coworkers, but I really think we are all friends now. I love our team of interns. They are all super talented and are just another great group of people that I enjoy spending time with. I also really like working with all the different teams, getting to interact with the student-athletes and staff is fun and rewarding. I know that my job is to take photos and videos and edit videos, but I really do enjoy it. I also love challenging myself every day to come up with different ideas, different photos to take and different ways of editing. I just love pushing myself to be the best I can be."
What is your favorite video that you have produced and why?
"I have to say my most recent one. Hysier Miller's Unbeaten video. It is my favorite as I was able to take more of a producer role asking the questions and putting the entire story together. I think that it was a unique story to tell because not many schools have a point guard and coaches who come from the same city. It was great to be able to sit down and talk to Hysier, Coach McKie and Coach Clark and hear about their experiences growing up and living in Philadelphia. This video was more of a documentary style video, which I don't get to make too often. Most of our work is usually short and quick videos for social media, so it was a nice change of pace. It was a challenging experience to tell his story, but it was also very rewarding because I think his story can impact a lot of people. It was great that we were able to share his story with our fans and members of the Temple community. I am proud of everyone's work on the video, and I am excited for the next stories that we will be able to tell in the Unbeaten series.
