Lacrosse Dedicating Saturday to "Cause Day"

PHILADELPHIA- Temple lacrosse is having a "Cause Day" for the fourth time in program history when the Owls host the Army Black Knights on Saturday, February 12. Each student-athlete has chosen to support a cause and organization that's meaningful to them.
The team as a whole will also be joining the rest of the Philadelphia City Six women's lacrosse programs this weekend in support of the HEADstrong Lacrosse club. The HEADstrong Lacrosse Club was established in 2006 by HEADstrong Founder, Nicholas Colleluori and HEADstrong Supporters with a vision of empowering student-athletes to support the HEADstrong Foundation in its fight against cancer. The Club has established itself as a preeminent lacrosse organization that has grown nationally and is committed to providing its players with an incredible and fun-filled learning experience.

I chose the Pulmonary Hypertension Association, because when I was in 8th Grade. I lost my aunt to Pulmonary Hypertension, and it has been a big part of my life ever since. It is a non-profit organization and runs solely off the support of others.

I chose the American Heart Association because it funds cardiovascular medical research, education on healthy cardiac care, and efforts to reduce deaths caused by cardiovascular disease and stroke. The American Heart Association is also focusing on other current issues such as the vaping epidemic among the youth in America.

This center is one of South Jersey's leading providers of prevention, detection, and treatment services for patients diagnosed with breast cancer.

The Gavin R. Stevens Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is to raise awareness and to find a cure for blindness, specifically focusing on Leber's Congential Amarosis (LCA). I selected this cause because just like Gavin, my younger brother Aj was born with this disease which has left him totally blind since birth. There are only 150 individuals in the United States with this disease and only 18 that are missing the exact gene (NMNAT1) that Aj and Gavin are missing. With our continued fundraising efforts towards research, I hope that one day we can find a cure to this disease and Aj and Gavin will one day be able to see things they have never seen before.

From special needs ministries to orphan care to helping those with "profound medical needs" to anti-human trafficking ministries, everyone from around the world can help make the lives of these people a little bit brighter and little less dark. I chose this foundation because I want to be able to share my faith with people who come from all types of backgrounds and share with them that there is hope and that they are loved.
