2.24.22 | Football
PHILADELPHIA – Temple Football head coach Stan Drayton continues building his staff with the additions of six new members. Drayton named Beau Walker as his Offensive Analyst, Ian Robertson as Assistant Equipment Manager, and four men to the position of Graduate Assistant Coaches – Sean Binckes, Cole Boozer, Corey Burns, and Maxx Rodriguez.
Sean Binckes will work with Jafar Williams and the wide receivers. He comes to Temple from FIU where he was the running backs coach under head coach Butch Davis in 2021. He had originally joined the Panthers' staff in 2020 as a graduate assistant and earned a master's degree in recreation and sports management. The Brooklyn, N.Y., native began his coaching career at Nassau Community College as a wide receivers coach in 2016. While Binckes also held the title of offensive coordinator and strength and conditioning coach throughout his tenure at Nassau, he moved to the offensive line in 2019. Binckes played tight end at LIU Post from 2012-16 where he also earned his bachelor's degree in health sciences.
Cole Boozer will work with Chris Wiesehan and the offensive line. Boozer is no stranger to Owls fans as he was a three-time letterwinner having been part of the team from 2013-17. In fact, he played under three head coaches, played tight end and offensive line, made three bowl appearances, and was a member of the 2016 American Athletic Conference Championship team. A single-digit honoree, Boozer went on to earn a roster spot on the 2018 Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He then played for the XFL's DC Defenders in 2019 before injuries curtailed his playing career. He spent the 2021 season as an intern under former Temple head coach, Geoff Collins, at Georgia Tech. Cole's younger brother, Evan Boozer, is a defensive end for the Owls. The Hunt Valley, Md., native earned his bachelor's degree in organizational development and masters in sports business from Temple. He is currently pursuing a degree in higher education.
Corey Burns will work with Antoine Smith and the defensive line. This will be the third year that the two work together having spent the 2020-21 seasons at Colorado State in similar roles. Prior to CSU, Burns was a defensive line coach at Tufts University from 2017-20 interrupted for one year by a position at Springfield College (2018-19). Burns earned his bachelor's degree in economics and public health from Tufts in 2016. He has since earned a master's in healthcare management from Tufts School of Medicine in 2017.
Ian Robertson first joined Temple Football as a student equipment manager in January 2019 and became a senior intern in August 2021. In January 2022, he was hired full-time as the Assistant Equipment Manager where he works with Paige Shinberg managing the day-to-day operations of the equipment room at Edberg-Olson Hall. Robertson also has volunteer experience with ESPN's College Gameday and NHL Stadium Series. The Wilmington, Del., native graduated from Temple in 2021 with a bachelor's degree in Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management, with a concentration in promotion, as well as a minor in general business studies.
Maxx Rodriguez will work with the defensive coaching staff. Rodriguez came to Temple from FIU where he spent the past three seasons. He began in 2019 as the Panthers' assistant video coordinator before moving into coaching positions. He was the defensive quality control coach in 2020 and became a graduate assistant in 2021. While attending FIU, Rodriguez served as defensive coordinator at Mater Academy Charter High (2016-18) taking a brief tour on the staff at South Miami Senior High in the spring of 2017. The Miami, Fla., native earned his bachelor's degree in communication and media studies from Florida International.
Beau Walker came to Temple from Nebraska where he was a graduate assistant on Mike Riley's staff, working with the quarterbacks. Walker was promoted to graduate assistant coach for the offensive line at Oregon State in 2014, after previously serving as a student assistant for the Beavers while completing his undergraduate degree. Walker coached running backs in the Canadian Football League for the Ottawa Redblacks (2016-19) and the British Columbia Lions (2020). The Redblacks participated in the 2016 and 2018 Grey Cup, winning the CFL Championship in 2016. Under his tutelage, William Powell was a two-time All-CFL running back. Beau's father, Craig, was the longtime head football coach at Bend (Ore.) High. Beau was a three-sport athlete for the Lava Bears, including earning first-team all-state honors as a quarterback and punter in his final season.
