No. 18 Lacrosse Faces Off Against Delaware

PHILADELPHIA- The No. 18 Temple lacrosse team (5-2) will play its second game in just three days with a matchup against the Delaware Blue Hens. This game was originally scheduled to be played on Saturday afternoon, but the match was moved up due to expected inclement weather.

LAST TIME OUT
> Temple fell to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights Wednesday night, 15-9.
> After a strong start from the Owls, Rutgers controlled the second and third quarters to establish a large lead.
> Belle Mastropietro attempted to spark a comeback in the final quarter, but it was too little, too late for the Cherry and White.
> Mackenzie Roth starred, with a career-high five assists. Her performance is tied for the third-most in a single-game Temple lacrosse history.
> Belle Mastropietro tied for the game-high with five goals, one short of her career-high. She also passed for an assist, scooped two ground balls, and controlled five draws.

SCOUTING TEMPLE
> Temple is holding at No. 18 in the IWLCA/Inside Lacrosse Poll for the second straight week.       
> Belle Mastropietro has also been playing at a top-tier level, and the powers that be in the lacrosse world have taken notice. The AAC Preseason Midfielder of the Year was named to the Tewaaraton Watchlist on Thursday, recognizing her as being in contention for the "Heisman of lacrosse." Mastropietro is currently ranked fourth in the nation in points (35) and seventh in goals (26). She also leads the American Athletic Conference in draw controls by a wide margin and has been honored by the American three times this season with weekly awards.
> Quinn Nicolai is not to be overlooked in the midfield. Nicolai is tied for the team lead in goals (26), which also ranks seventh in the nation. Nicolai has been honored by the American twice this season. She was named AAC Midfielder of the Week (2/21) and to the AAC Honor Roll (3/7).
> Mackenzie Roth has staked her claim as one of the best facilitators in the country. She set a new career-high against Rutgers with five assists. This is her second new career-high in assists in just three games after passing for four against Kennesaw State. She is currently 3rd in the nation in assists (18).
> Katie Shallow has lived up to her billing as a Preseason All-Conference defender. She leads Temple in both ground balls (15) and caused turnovers (11). She ranks near the top of the American in both categories.
 
SCOUTING DELAWARE
> Last year the Blue Hens were 1-5 before they elected to suspend play due to Covid.
> The Blue Hens are again 1-5 and have several metrics that rank near the bottom of Division I. Delaware ranks in the bottom 25 in 12 out of the 20 NCAA tracked categories.
> Amy Altig is in her third season leading the Blue Hens. Prior to her time at Delaware, Altig was on the sidelines as a Penn State assistant and associate Head Coach for nine seasons. She is 4-13 during her three seasons in Newark. Despite this being her third season, it will be the first full season she has had with the Hens.
> Delaware returns 93 percent of their scoring from a season ago. Danika Swech and Meghan Johnson captain the Hens. Swech leads the goal count with eight. Riley Gillin leads in assists (8) and points (14).

SERIES HISTORY vs. DELAWARE
> Temple and Delaware are meeting for the 36th time in series history, with the Owls holding a 19-17 advantage. 
> Delaware is tied for the 3rd most played opponent in Temple lacrosse history. They trail only Penn State (39), Lafayette (37), and are tied with Penn (36).
> Last season, Temple dominated the Blue Hens 17-10 in Newark to open the 2021 season.
