Men’s Basketball Falls to Tulane in AAC Quarterfinals, 69-60

FORTH WORTH, Texas – Fourth-seed Temple struggled from the field all day, shooting 28.4. percent from the field in falling to fifth-seed Tulane, 69-60, in the 2022 Air Force Reserve American Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Championship Quarterfinal Round Friday afternoon at Dickies Arena.

Hysier Miller scored a game and career-high 21 points while dishing four assists for the Owls, who fall to 17-12.   The Green Wave, led by Kevin Cross (18 points, 9 rebounds), improved to 14-14.  They will meet top-seed Houston Saturday in the semifinals.

First Half
>  It was a tightly contested first 10 minutes until Tulane used a 7-0 run to take a 22-15 lead with 7:35 on the clock.
> A few minutes later the Green Wave used another 7-0 run to extend the margin to a dozen, 33-21, with just under three minutes left in the half.
> Temple, which shot 20 percent for the period (6-20), would score the final four points, the last coming on two free throws from Miller, to cut the deficit back to single digits, 36-27.

Second Half
> Damian Dunn would make the first basket of the second half, but 20 second later would leave the game with an ankle injury.   He briefly returned but would play just 18 minutes while scoring seven points.
> A three by Miller would cut the deficit to four, 36-32, but Tulane would quickly push the margin to nine, 43-34.
> The Owls cut it to one possession two minutes later, 43-40, following baskets by Tai Strickland, Miller and Jake Forrester.
> Tulane then scored eight of the next nine points to again extend its lead to double digits, 51-41, with 6:50 to play.
> The Owls never were able to get closer than seven the remainder of the contest. 

Statistically Speaking
> Zach Hicks was the only other Owl in double figures with 12 points. 
> Strickland had a career-high nine rebounds and tied his career mark with three steals.   Like most of his teammates he struggled with his shot, making just one-of-12 for four points.
> Jahlil White grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds, his fifth double-figure rebound game of the season.  He also could not find his shot, making just two-of-13 for five points.
> Tulane shot 52 percent (26-50) from the field and blocked nine Temple shots.
> Temple out-rebounded Tulane, 38-34.  

Next Up
> Temple will wait to see if its season is extended when postseason tournament bids are announced on Sunday.
