Temple Mourns Passing of Men’s Basketball Great Alton McCullough

Alton McCullough, who starred for Temple men's basketball from 1978 through 1982, passed away on July 2.  He was 61.

"Temple Basketball lost one of its greats in the passing of Alton McCullough," said Temple basketball coach Aaron McKie. "Alton was a great man who was loved by all that knew him.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family during this time."

Mr. McCullough, who was high school basketball standout at Darby Township High, played four seasons at Temple where he helped lead his teams to a combined 78-32 won-loss record and three post-season berths (1 NCAA, 2 NIT).

The Darby Township, Pa. native played in 107 games for the Cherry and White, scoring 1,051 career points and pulling down 673 rebounds, which currently ranks 15th in school history.  He became the 18th Owl to reach the 1,000-point plateau when he scored 18 points against East Coast Conference foe Lafayette on Feb. 16, 1982.  

Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing at Mt Zion CME Church, 701 Felton Avenue, Darby, Pa. on Saturday from 8-10 am. The Service will follow at 10 a.m.
