8.11.22 | General
PHILADELPHIA - Temple's Senior Associate AD for Mental Health Dr. Stephany Coakley has announced the addition of two new TUWell staff members, Melissa Graham and Aspen McMillan. Graham will serve as a Mental Health Counselor while McMillan will serve as a Mental Health Coordinator.Â
"The on-going global pandemic and social justice issues have amplified the need to reduce the stigma and prioritize mental health care in our society. I am grateful to our Athletic Director, Arthur Johnson, and the Board of Trustees for allowing me to create these two positions in TUWell," Dr. Coakley said. "Aspen and Melissa will enhance the services and support that we provide to current and future Temple Owls."
Graham served as a TUWell Counseling Intern from August 2021 to May 2022 while pursuing a Master of Education in Counseling Psychology with a focus on mental health. During her time as an intern, she led team workshops, provided individual counseling for Temple student-athletes, and taught WISE sessions for coaching staffs and administrators. She also developed a transition program for first-year student-athletes and facilitated multidisciplinary team meetings with student-athlete support staff for student-athletes with high acuity. Before her time in North Philadelphia, Graham was a member of the women's cross country and track and field teams at Towson, graduating in May 2020 with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a minor in Health Science. While with the Tigers, she was a student-athlete mentor and interned at the Kennedy Krieger Institute.
McMillan is a five-time Track and Field All-American from Rowan, where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Psychology with a minor in sociology in 2019. She earned a Master of Arts in Counseling from Northwestern in June 2022. McMillan was a Residential Youth Counselor at the Together Youth Shelter, where her duties included collaborating with clinicians and case managers on program structure, supervising and leading activities, and working directly with shelter residents. Most recently, she served at SAW Counseling Center as a Counseling Intern where she provided psychotherapy for clients, established diagnosis and treatment plans, conducted group sessions, and provided case conceptualizations for learning purposes.
