Sports Medicine Staff Announces Five New Hires

PHILADELPHIA - Director of Athletic Training Kevin Addison has announced the addition of five new athletic trainers, Alex Boron-Magulik, Matt Calcagno, Mariya Lee, Gillian McCarren, and Emily Stein.

"I'm excited to work with our new athletic trainers as each staff member brings their own unique skill-set to enhance the level of care for our student-athletes," Addison said.

Boron-Magulik spent the past year at Virginia Tech, where he served Certified Athletic Trainer Director for Track and Field/Cross Country. While with the Hokies, he worked as the lead athletic trainer for the 2022 Indoor ACC Men's and Women's Track and Field Teams as well as the Pole Vault and 800m National Champions. Before his stop in Blacksburg, Va., Boron-Magulik worked with football, women's soccer, cross country, men's basketball, track and field, and wrestling athletes as a Certified Assistant Athletic Trainer for Emory & Henry College from August 2018 - September 2021. He began his career in athletic training as a student trainer at King's College in 2012, graduating in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training. He received his Master of Science in Athletic Training from A.T. Still University in 2018.

Calcagno comes to Temple after two years with the Green Bay Packers, where he served as a Seasonal Assistant Intern Athletic Trainer. Prior to his stop in Green Bay, Wisc., he spent two summers working as the Summer Intern Athletic Trainer with the Philadelphia Eagles and the Baltimore Ravens. Calcagno was the Novacare Athletic Trainer/ Temple Football Athletic Trainer from 2018 - 2020, after earning his Master of Science in Athletic Training from West Virginia Wesleyan College in 2018 and Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from ECU in 2016.

Prior to joining the staff at Temple, Lee served as an Assistant Athletic Trainer at Delaware Valley University. While with the Rams, she worked with men's and women's wrestling, men's soccer, women's volleyball, women's lacrosse, and baseball. Lee spent time at Chestnut Hill Academy and JeffFIT following stints at Thomas Jefferson University and Thomas Jefferson Sports Medicine Outpatient as a Full-Time Athletic Training Intern. She earned her Master of Science in Athletic Training from Thomas Jefferson in 2021 and her Bachelor of Arts in Health Promotion And Wellness Management from Rowan in 2018.

McCarren joins Temple after her most recent stint at Army West Point, where she worked with the men's and women's swimming and diving teams. Prior to working with the Black Knights, she served as a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer at Ohio University while working with the Bobcat softball team and earning her Master of Science in Athletic Training. She also assisted with the care of Ohio's field hockey team. McCarren earned her Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from Towson in 2017.

A 2020 graduate of Temple, Stein most recently worked at High Point as an Assistant Athletic Trainer for the track and field/cross country teams. While earning her Master of Science in Athletic Training from Temple, she saw stints with Widener, Penn, Drexel, and Father Judge High School. Stein earned her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology in 2018 from UMass Amherst, interning with the UMass football team for the 2016 season.
