Dr. James Rory Tucker Named Lead Team Physician/Director of Sports Medicine for Temple Athletics

PHILADELPHIA - James Rory Tucker, M.D. has been named the Lead Team Physician and Director of Sports Medicine for Temple Athletics, announced Executive Senior Associate Athletics Director Jessica Reo.   Dr. Tucker's appointment, which officially started on July 1, is part of Temple Athletics overall partnership with Temple University Hospital.

"We are very fortunate to have Dr. Tucker take over as our Lead Team Physician/Director of Sports Medicine." said Reo.  "Dr. Tucker is one of the top medical professionals in the region and his experience working in the field of sports medicine will provide our student-athletes with the highest level of care possible.

"I would also like to thank Dr. Cory Keller and Dr. Ryan Schreiter for their service to our student-athletes while serving as our primary team physicians prior to and through the pandemic.  It was with their help and guidance that we were able to provide a safe environment for our teams throughout these unprecedented times and we are thankful they will continue to serve our student-athletes."

Prior to pursuing medicine, Dr. Tucker graduated from the United States Naval Academy and served in the Marine Corps. After completion of his service, he graduated from Drexel University College of Medicine in 2009 then did his Family Medicine residency at The Reading Hospital.  He then went on to complete a fellowship in sports medicine at Rutgers University where he worked with both Rutgers and Princeton University athletics. Most recently he held academic appointments with Penn State Health in their departments of Family & Community Medicine and Orthopedics & Rehabilitations while providing care to athletes and primary care patients of all ages.

In addition to his position as the team physician for Temple, Dr. Tucker, who specializes in Primary Care Sports Medicine and Family Medicine, also works in the department of Family and Community Medicine and provides musculoskeletal care for students with Student Health Services on Main Campus.  

Dr. Tucker is a member of state and national specialty societies reflecting his passion for sports medicine and family medicine.  He is a leader with the Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians, a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, an active committee member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, and member of the Academy of Wilderness Medicine.

Dr. Tucker resides in Wayne, PA with his wife Kathryn and their son Riley.
