PHILADELPHIA – On Wednesday, March 22, Temple University welcomed Dr. Henry H. Davis Family School of Camden, N.J. to campus to take part in the "Temple Experience"; a fun-filled, engaging day that gives area youth the opportunity to learn more about Temple University and what it takes to be a student-athlete and an Owl.  The Temple Experience was formulated from conversations and meetings with surrounding municipalities in Philadelphia and New Jersey to introduce the community, specifically young students, to all that Temple University and Temple Athletics has to offer.

"It was a collaborative effort on all fronts, and this could not have happened without our wonderful campus partners from the School of Social Work, Undergraduate Admissions, Temple ROTC, and IDEAL," said Prince Moody, Temple University Associate Athletics Director for Diversity, Inclusion and Equity/Student Athlete Development.  "I just want to thank our phenomenal planning team for creating such a tremendous experience for our local youth to gain exposure to the plethora of educational opportunities and possibilities here at Temple University.  Drs. DaVonti Hayes, Raven Lynch from the School of Social Work, Antonio Romero and Adrienne Castro-Moreno from Undergraduate Admissions as well as Tia Withers from our athletics staff for coordinating a fantastic Temple Experience.

Special thank you to Marco Young, Military Science/Temple ROTC and Nu'Rodney Prad Director of Student Engagement for the Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity, Advocacy and Leadership (IDEAL) for their generosity in supporting this initiative.  I also want to thank our outstanding community partners Danielle Montague, Principal of Dr. Henry H. Davis Family School, and Charae Perry, Senior Director of Solution Center and External Affairs for the Camden City School District, for all their efforts in making this happen."

Through the collaboration between Temple Athletics and Temple's School of Social Work, 93 students were welcomed to campus for this Temple Experience. Drs. Haynes and Lynch, both assistant professors in the School of Social Work, were major contributors in the planning, facilitation, and implementation of the day, offering leadership activities and engagement opportunities for the students.

As the students arrived on campus, they were welcomed by Justin Miller, Executive Senior Associate Athletics Director and Chief of Staff, followed by a leadership session and lunch at Johnson & Hardwick Dining Hall. The day was highlighted by a campus tour which was led by Temple's Black Student Union, giving the students a glimpse of the opportunities of campus life. The experience  concluded with a "College Student 101 Panel" featuring BSU members and current student-athletes/ROTC cadets Taylor Grollman (Lacrosse) and Juliane Cherry (Track & Field) where the middle school students could ask question about the collegiate experience.  As the event came to an end, the students received a Temple Athletics swag bag to cap off an incredible day of learning, community engagement and mentorship.
