Temple women's lacrosse head coach Bonnie Rosen and Athletics Travel & Business Manager Aly Hinton recently participated in the EmpowHer Shabbat, a dinner and panel hosted by Temple Athletics and Hillel at Temple.

"It was such a thrill to join Hillel for the Empower her event" Rosen said. "One of my favorite parts about being at Temple is how natural it is to interact with so many different parts of the Temple University community.  Doing an event that combined Hillel and athletics was such a fun and meaningful opportunity for me.  I take great pride in being a female Jewish coach and athlete and I loved being able to share how that identity has provided such wonderful opportunities for me in my life.  Bringing people together and making the world a better place is something that I believe Temple has the unique ability to do really well.  A big thank you to Hillel and Temple athletics for such a wonderful evening!"

The focus of the event was on the experiences of women in sport as well as the experiences of those in the Jewish community.

"Because Bonnie and I are both Jewish, we were able to talk about how that has shaped our experiences and where we are now," said Hinton. "Being Jewish is hard right now, so having the opportunity to talk about that shared experience was really important."

Hinton and Rosen were able to talk about the challenges facing women in sport, and how the landscape of athletics has changed in recent years.

"Getting the opportunity to to talk to both men and women about some of those things was great," Hinton said. "They may not think about it, but they do live in the sport world too. It can be going to a live event or streaming it, or engaging on social media. It was nice to be able to connect these two worlds and these two different parts of my identities."

Hillel at Temple is welcome to people of all faiths and denominations.
