WASHINGTON – Temple women's lacrosse alumni, Kathleen Barrett Geiger ('86) was named a 2023 Tewaaraton Legends Award winner alongside former University of Maryland star Doug Schreiber as announced by the Tewaaraton Foundation.
"Kathleen is the GOAT of modern women's lacrosse," former Temple Head Coach Tina Sloan Green said. "Her aggressive and assertive style of play, big personality and infectious laugh was a huge inspiration to me, her teammates, and other coaches. Not only that, but she inspired youth from racially, socioeconomic, and culturally diverse backgrounds. I really cannot think of a better recipient of the Tewaaraton Award, and I am grateful and blessed to celebrate Kathleen's amazing accomplishments!"
The Tewaaraton Legends Award annually honors recipients who played college lacrosse prior to 2001, the first year in which the Tewaaraton Award was presented.
Geiger, a member of the 1986 graduating class had an illustrious athletic career in the Cherry and White. A dual sport athlete, Geiger was a four-year member of the field hockey team, while also leading the women's lacrosse squad. She led the Owls to four straight NCAA Semifinals (1983-86), while bringing the programs second National Championship back to North Broad in 1984. She currently sits at sixth all-time in career points at Temple, with 234, while ranking fifth in goals (190). Her 82-goal season in 1986 proved to be one of the best performances in Temple history, ranking eighth all-time in single season goals.
Her profound impact on the field over the course of four years did not go unnoticed, as she a two-time USWLA Brine All-American (1985-86) and a two-time All-Tournament Team selection in 1983 and 1984.
Geiger's playing career continued post-graduation, as she was a member of Team USA from 1984-97, winning three World Cup Championships and captaining the team twice. Her dedication to women's lacrosse and success on the field led her to be an inductee to the USA Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2001, while she was also inducted into the Temple Hall of Fame in 1999.
