Temple Men’s Basketball Well Represented at 2023 TBT

PHILADELPHIA –The Basketball Tournament, better known as simply TBT, opens play this week with the 64-team tournament being played in eight different cities. The field features 75 players with NBA experience and 34 college alumni teams, including two with Temple Basketball ties.
The field will be split into eight regions played over two weeks. One team from each region will advance to the quarterfinals, which will be split between Wichita, Kansas (July 25), Wheeling, West Virginia (July 30), Dayton, Ohio (July 31), and Louisville, Kentucky (July 31).
Philadelphia will serve as the host for TBT's Championship week, with the semifinals (Aug. 2) and TBT's $1 million winner-take-all championship game (Aug. 3) being played at Drexel University's Daskalakis Athletic Center.
The Broad Street Bullies, the five-seed in the Wichita 1 bracket, features eight players who starred for the Cherry and White as well as two assistant coaches. Temple fans will be able to see some of their favorite Owls in Shizz Alston, Jr., Daniel Dingle, Justyn Hamilton, Alani Moore II, Damion Moore, DeVondre Perry, Scootie Randall and Quinton Rose in action starting this Thursday, July 20 at 4 pm (ESPN2) against a team of Memphis alums, #4-seed Beale Street Boys. Former Owl Trey Lowe and former Temple MBB manager Shea Avelino are serving as assistant coaches to head coach Tony Paris.
The other team with Temple ties in the field is The Big 5, which is coached by former Owl great and current Director of Player Development for the TU men's basketball program, Khalif Wyatt. The Big 5 features two Owls, Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson and Sage Tolbert III with representatives from each of the other Big 5 teams.
The Big 5 is the eight-seed in the Syracuse bracket and will play top-seed, Blue Collar U, on Monday, July 24 at 2 pm on ESPN+
