Football Travels to Rutgers for Non-Conference Matchup

Temple travels to Rutgers for a non-conference match on Saturday, September 9. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at SHI Stadium and the game will air on Big 10 Network.

LAST WEEK
The Owls overcame a 14-point deficit to defeat Akron 24-21 in the team's season opener. The story of the game was Temple's defensive prowess in the second half, holding Akron scoreless and allowing just 41 total yards. Running back Edward Saydee hauled in two receiving touchdowns and safety Tywan Francis sealed the game with his first career interception.

Rutgers opened their season with a 24-7 win at home against Northwestern. Quarterback Gavin Wimsatt scored two touchdowns, one through the air and one on the ground, en route to a Scarlet Knights victory. Rutgers limited Northwestern to just 12 total rushing yards off 22 attempts and kept Northwestern scoreless until 19 seconds remaining in the game.

LAST TIME VS. RUTGERS
The Owls suffered a narrow 16-14 defeat against the Scarlet Knights on Homecoming at Lincoln Financial Field in the team's third game of the 2022 season. Temple took an early 7-0 lead, but Rutgers capitalized off a 43-yard interception return for a touchdown and three field goals. Temple quarterback E.J. Warner made his first career start and finished the game with 215 passing yards.

LAST TIME VS. RUTGERS AT SHI STADIUM
The last time the Cherry and White traveled to Piscatway, it was a one-sided Rutgers victory in the 2021 season opener. The Scarlet Knights defeated the Owls 61-14, behind six rushing touchdowns on the day.

TEMPLE-RUTGERS HISTORY
The Owls and Scarlet Knights have faced off 37 times, with Rutgers holding a 22-15 advantage in the all-time series. Temple has lost its last six consecutive matchups in the series. Temple's last victory against Rutgers was on the road during the 2002 season. The Owls put up 271 rushing yards in the win and held the Scarlet Knights to 142 total yards from scrimmage.
