BELGRADE, Serbia — Temple Women's Rowing junior Gemma Wollenschlaeger and alum Elaine Tierney both earned top-three finishes at the 2023 World Rowing Championships in Belgrade, Serbia on Friday, September 8.
Wollenschlaeger, alongside teammate Todd Vogt, took home a silver medal in the PR3 Mixed Double Sculls with a time of 8:15.22 in the finals. The duo earned third place in the opening heats in order to advance to the final round.
Tierney, a 2022 graduate, placed third overall in the Lightweight Women's 2 against a highly competitive field and rough conditions on the water. This is her second top-three finish after placing second in the event in 2022.
For Wollenschlaeger, the performance in Serbia opens the door for a possible spot in the 2024 Summer Paralympics in Paris, France. Today's finish qualified the USA PR3 Mixed Double Sculls boat for a spot in the Olympics, but Wollenschlaeger will need to qualify for the position once more in order to compete in the 2024 Summer Paralympics.
