PHILADELPHIA - Temple University student-athletes had another stellar semester in the classroom in the 2023 Fall.  Temple's 450-plus student-athletes combined for a 3.37 semester grade point average – yet another increase from both the fall and spring semesters from the 2022-23 academic year.

The 2023 Fall, marks the 24th straight semester that the grade point average was above a 3.0, with just shy of 80% of student-athletes earning above a 3.0 GPA.  Eighteen out of Temple's 19 athletic programs earned a higher GPA than in the 2022 Fall.

"Congratulations and thank you to our student-athletes for their continued hard work and success in the classroom this past fall semester," said Temple University Vice President and Director of Athletics, Arthur Johnson. Excelling academically is an important part of the commitment each student-athlete makes when coming to Temple and we are continually proud of the efforts that each student-athlete makes in the classroom. I would also like to thank Tara Evans and her staff at the Nancy and Donald Resnick Academic Support Center, our coaches, and our administration, for their dedication to the academic success of our student-athletes."

Eighteen varsity sports teams earned a Fall GPA of above a 3.0, with seven sports earning higher than a 3.5 GPA.  Men's cross country (3.72) and women's gymnastics (3.68) had the highest GPA for male and female teams respectively.  Women's field hockey missed the top spot for the second year in a row by .01 with a team GPA of 3.67.

Eighteen Temple teams maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.1 or better, with women's gymnastics (3.69) and men's cross country (3.63) topping the list again.  Additionally, 12 teams topped cumulative GPAs at 3.30 or above.
