PHILADELPHIA - Temple University has been named host of the 2027 & 2028 NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse Championships at Subaru Park, it was announced by the organization Wednesday. This marks the first time in the event's 43-year history that Temple has been selected to host.
"We are excited to partner with Subaru Park, PHLCVB and PHL Sports in hosting the 2028 NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship," Arthur Johnson, Vice President/Debbie and Stanley Lefkowitz '65 Director of Athletics said. "Temple University and Philadelphia have such a rich history in the sport of women's lacrosse, and we can't wait to welcome some of the top student-athletes and programs in the country to our region. A very special thanks to PHL Sports Executive Director Larry Needle and all of the staff at PHL Sports and PHLCVB for their dedication and support throughout this bid process."
The NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse Championships will take place over Memorial Day weekend, with the semifinals typically being held on Friday prior to a Sunday final. The championship has been help in the Philadelphia region previously, with St. Joe's hosting at Talen Energy Stadium (now Subaru Park) in 2016 & 2017. It has also been held at Franklin Field three times, at Haverford, West Chester, and Villanova.
"The enthusiasm and interest from around the country to host NCAA championships continues to be a testament to the quality of our events," said Lynda Tealer, NCAA senior vice president of championships. "For this cycle we incorporated more data into the process to help our sport and oversight committees through the evaluation and selection of sites as we had so many quality venues and locations looking to host during these two seasons. We will continue to evaluate and gather feedback on going from the traditional four-year cycle to awarding championship bids for two years to determine the right cadence for the bid process in the future."
In addition to Temple's women's lacrosse championship bid, Saint Joseph's has been selected to host the 2027 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Regional Championship and Drexel has been awarded the 2027 NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship.
