Men's Crew Posts Three Top-Five Finishes at Head of the Schuylkill Regatta

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple men's crew team has three of its six entries finish fifth place overall, including a fine showing in the Championship 8+ event, as the squad competed at the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta Saturday.

QUOTE FROM HEAD COACH BRENDAN CUNNINGHAM: "Today was a strong team performance. Fourteen walk-on oarsmen experienced their first race as Temple Owls. We had 48 athletes competing across five eights and a four. This race marked an important stepping stone in our development as racers. We will carry this energy and momentum forward as we approach our final race of the fall next week!"

HOW IT HAPPENED

In the College Novice/Freshman 8+ event, the Temple A boat stroked by Leonidas Kopidas crossed in 12:31.107, eight-tenths of a second faster than sixth-place Colgate.
Senior and commodore Patrick Lamb was stroke seat of the Club Championship 8+ A entry for Temple, and helped his crew to a fifth-place showing.
The crew narrowly missed out on a podium finish, closing two seconds behind Drexel and less than half of a second behind Marietta for fourth place.
The final race of the day saw the varsity eight crew finish with the fifth-fastest time of any boat in the event.
The time of 11:07.534 was quicker than both Columbia and Drexel, who both advanced to the C Final of IRA National Championships last season.
Other boats competing included the the Novice/Freshman B entry (16th), the Club Championship B entry (17th), and the Championship 4+ entry (24th).

Temple rounds out its head-racing season on November 3 at the Princeton Three-Mile Chase.
