Battie, Mashburn Recognized in First AAC Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas - Dillon Battie was named the Freshman of the Week and Jamal Mashburn Jr garnered Honorable Mention recognition as the American Athletic Conference announced its first weekly awards of the season on Monday afternoon.Â
Battie averaged 10.0 points and 4.0 rebounds per contest in the opening two games of his collegiate career. He scored 16 on Friday against Monmouth, pulling in eight rebounds. In his debut on Monday against Sacred Heart, he scored four points with his opening basket coming on a rim-shaking alley oop. Overall he shot 7-for-9 from the floor and 6-for-8 from the line.Â
Mashburn tallied 25.5 points per game, posting 26 against Sacred Heart and 25 against Monmouth. The graduate student from Miami, Fla. shot 64.5 percent from the floor (20-of-31) and connected on 8-of-11 three-pointers.Â
Temple returns to action on Tuesday when it opens Big 5 pod play against Drexel at the Liacouras Center at 7:00 p.m.
