Jones Earns 3rd AAC Freshman of the Week Award; Kaohelaulil Wins Defensive Player of the Week

IRVING, Texas - After sweeping a pair of American Athletic Conference rivals this past weekend, the Temple volleyball team picked up a slew of weekly awards from the conference on Monday. Freshman Sydney Jones earned her third AAC Rookie of the Week award this season, graduate student Hikialani Kaohelaulii was named the conference's Defensive Player of the Week, and a pair of Owls - freshman Christiana Greene and sophomore Lexi Yoza - earned honorable mention accolades.

Jones was a force once again offensively for the Owls, averaging 4.67 kills per set and adding 2.00 digs per set in two 3-0 wins. Against Tulane on Friday, the Havertown, Pa. product posted 13 kills and added three digs in a victory over Tulane, then put together a near double-double performance on Sunday against North Texas with 15 kills and nine digs. Jones hit an impressive .406 against the Mean Green and .299 for the week. On the season, Jones ranks third in the AAC in kills per set at 3.62 and is the only freshman to rank in the top 10. 

Kaohelaulii, who registered her 1,000th career dig earlier this season, was phenomenal defensively for the Owls this past weekend. On Sunday she was particularly impressive, totaling 29 digs (9.7/set) in the victory over North Texas. She also added 12 digs against the Green Wave on Friday, and leads the Owls on the season with 257 digs and at 2.73 digs per set.

Greene was another impact player on the offensive end for the Owls against Tulane and North Texas, totaling 24 kills and averaging 4.00 kills per set. In Friday's matchup with Tulane, the Columbia, S.C. native had 15 kills and hit an impressive .667 in the 3-0 victory. Yoza ran the show offensively from the setter position, averaging 12.17 assists per set and totaling 73 on the weekend. She tallied 37 assists and a pair of service aces against North Texas on Sunday.

The Owls return to the court on Friday, November 15 with their final home match of the regular season against East Carolina. The match at McGonigle Hall is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. start time.
