PHILADELPHIA – Temple University freshman Sydney Jones was named the 2024 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Rookie of the Year and graduate student Taylor Davenport was named to the All-ECAC Second Team. The ECAC is an eighty-year-old organization with over 200 member schools across NCAA Division I, II, and III.

Jones, a Havertown, Pa. native, came into her freshman season and took over for the Owls. The outside hitter was named Americal Athletic Conference (AAC) Freshman of the Week, a league-high three times.

Offensively, Jones was a star throughout the season. She ended the year fourth in the AAC in points (369.5) and seventh in kills (324), which averaged to 3.60 kills/set. During her first season Jones reached double-digit kills in 19 matches, while eclipsing 20 or more kills three times. Her season-high in kills came in a 3-2 win over Binghamton. On defense, Jones proved to be a force for the Cherry and White. The final match of the season at Charlotte was a career-performance on defense. The freshman finished with 18 digs, which contributed to her nine double-doubles this season.

Davenport, a Columbia, S.C. native, finished her Cherry and White career with a stellar season. The graduate student was named to the First-Team All-ACC after coming into 2024 being named to the preseason All-AAC team. The outside hitter finished the season at the top of the AAC in kills (438) and points (499.5), while finishing second in kills per set (4.29). Davenport was named AAC Offensive Player of the week, while also picking up AAC Honorable Mention three times this year.

In her final stint with Temple, Davenport reached double-digit kills in 22 of 30 matches this season and recorded 20 or more kills on five occasions. She also recorded a conference-high 33 kills at Presbyterian earlier in the season. Davenport ended her career sixth overall in kills, totaling 1,552 across her five years donning the Cherry and White. This season in particular ranks fifth in school history, as she finished 2024 with 438 kills.
