PHILADELPHIA – Temple Athletics Facilities will undergo a "turf lift" over the next few months as the fields at the Edberg Olson Football Complex and the Temple Sports Complex will have new turf fields installed by FieldTurf, a world leader in artificial turf with over 25,000 installations worldwide.
"The time is right to resurface our athletic turfs and I am pleased to announce that we have contracted with industry-leader FieldTurf for all three on-campus outdoor turfs," said Temple University Vice President and Debbie and Stanley Lefkowitz '65 Director of Athletics Arthur Johnson. "We want our student-athletes to have the best athletic turfs and this move ensures that our surfaces will maintain high level standards. The new surfaces at the Temple Sports Complex will also serve our overall student population through our partnership with Campus Recreation."
"It's an exciting opportunity to be able to work with the team at Temple University on a multi-faceted project of this nature, and we're grateful to be trusted with such an extensive undertaking," said Eric Daliere, President - Tarkett North America & Tarkett Sports. "We look forward to helping ensure that all who rely on the school's outdoor facilities will have access to the best surface solutions to stay active and continue to grow as athletes."
A new FieldTurf Prestige Vertex system will be installed on Chodoff Field at Edberg-Olson Hall, the home of the Temple Football team. Prestige Vertex is comprised of specially designed slit-film fibers and high-performance ridged monofilament fibers. The fibrillation process of the slit-film component allows for proper infill encapsulation while the monofilament fibers facilitate grass-like ball roll. Both fibers are tufted together in the same stitch for a superior aesthetic appearance.
At the Temple Sports Complex, a FieldTurf Hockey Gold surface will be installed on Howarth Field, home of the Owls' Field Hockey and Lacrosse teams. Hockey Gold was designed specifically for the highest levels of competition. This player-friendly product is built with a uniquely engineered polyethylene filament. Shaped like a lens, the fiber is texturized through a high heat process to create its crimped effect and retains its memory, providing a truly uniform and non-directional surface with exceptional durability.
FieldTurf is an International Hockey Federation (FIH) Preferred Supplier and an Official Sponsor of the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA).
Finally, the Temple Men's and Women's Soccer field will now be covered by a FieldTurf Revolution 360 artificial turf, which is designed to meet FIFA Quality Certification standards. One of the most popular systems, the FieldTurf Revolution and Revolution 360 fiber have delivered leading results for over a decade. Named after the concept of completeness, Revolution 360 features optimal durability, resilience and feel.
All three projects are expected to be completed in time for the start of preseason training for the Temple Football, Field Hockey and Men's and Women's Soccer fall season.
