PHILADELPHIA – Dr. Ray Moyer, who served as the Temple Athletics Head Team Physician from 1978-2013, has been selected as a recipient of the 2024 PATS Dr. Cordas Honorary Team Physician Award.  Dr. Moyer will receive the award at the PATS Honors & Awards Banquet won Friday, June 7 at the Sheraton Hotel in Hershey, Pa.

"Temple Athletics and the countless student-athletes he served are forever indebted to Dr. Ray Moyer for his care and service," said Vice President and Debbie and Stanley Director of Athletics Arthur Johnson. "While I did not work with him, based on what I have learned, his 35 years of exemplary service to Temple is legendary. He is revered by not just the student-athletes he treated, but by the entire athletics community at Temple and well deserving of this prestigious honor."

"This is a tremendous honor for Dr. Moyer that recognizes his close relationship to Athletic Trainers throughout his career at Temple," said Dr. J. Milo Sewards, Temple Athletics Team Orthopedic Surgeon since 2008.  "While he worked on a daily basis with the Athletic Trainers covering all of Temple's intercollegiate teams, he also was an essential part of the education of such a large number of Temple's graduates in Athletic Training, many of whom have remained in practice in Pennsylvania and are part of the PATS.  It is a well-deserved and fitting recognition of the outstanding care that Dr. Moyer has provided for athletes at Temple, in Philadelphia, and really, across all of Pennsylvania."

Moyer, who has continued in his orthopedic practice seeing patients at Temple Health, was inducted into the Temple University Athletics Hall of Fame in 2009, also served as the team physician for the Philadelphia 76ers from 1988-90. A 1968 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Medical School who did his orthopedic residency at Temple, Moyer was a stellar athlete in his own right. He earned All-America honors in baseball as an undergraduate at Lafayette College ('63) and was drafted by the Chicago Cubs. He was later inducted into the Lafayette Athletics Hall of Fame in 2022 and is also a member of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame (2015).
