5.28.24 | General
PHILADELPHIA – Temple University's student-athletes continued to excel where it matters most – in the classroom – as evidenced by a 3.42 combined semester grade point average for the 450-plus student-athletes. The 3.42 semester grade point average, which is an increase of 0.05 from the fall to spring semester, is the highest department GPA outside of the 3.62 GPA in Spring 2020, when students were able to credit/no credit all their courses due to the sudden exceptional circumstances of the pandemic.
It is the 25th consecutive semester above a 3.00 grade point average. It is also the 9th semester with grade point average of a 3.25 or above. An impressive 79.6 percent of Temple's student-athletes earned a semester GPA of 3.0 or above. Also, a total of 53 student-athletes earned a perfect 4.0 grade point average for the spring semester.
"Congratulations to our student-athletes on another highly successful semester in the classroom. Your hard work in the classroom truly paid dividends," said Temple University Vice President and Debbie and Stanley Lefkowitz '65 Director of Athletics Arthur Johnson. "I would like to commend Tara Evans and her staff at the Nancy and Donald Resnick Academic Support Center for their hard work and dedication to our student-athletes' success, as well as Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, Assessment and Institutional Research Jodi Levine-Laufgraben and her staff in the Provost Office. It is through their guidance, as well as the commitment from our coaches and staffs, that our student-athletes are able to achieve greatness."
Eighteen varsity sports posted a combined semester GPA above a 3.00 with 11 earning a GPA at 3.40 or above. Field Hockey posted the top varsity sport semester GPA with a 3.73, while Men's Cross Country, Women's Gymnastics, and Women's Lacrosse record 3.72 semester GPAs.
Additionally, 14 Temple teams earned a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or better with 18 teams recording cumulative GPAs above a 3.00 with seven varsity programs at 3.50 or above. Field Hockey and Women's Gymnastics (3.68) tied for the highest cumulative grade point average while Men's Cross Country (3.61) own the highest male cumulative grade point average.
