Van Vuuren Named Philly-SIDA Academic All-Area Performer of the Year; Raynor Named to Academic All-Area Team

PHILADELPHIA - Brandon Van Vuuren of the Temple men's team has been named the Philly-SIDA Academic All-Area Performer of the Year and Kenneth Raynor was named to the Academic All-Area Team as announced by the organization on Wednesday.Â
To be eligible, student-athletes must have attained sophomore status or higher with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30. The award is voted on by members of the sports information staffs of the 30 schools from the Philadelphia region.Â
A four-year letter winner, Van Vuuren rowed was a key part of Temple's success in the Varsity 8+ this past season as he led the Owls to a silver medal performance at the Knecht Cup and a bronze medal at the Dad Vail Regatta. The senior was honored as one of 25 recipients of the Diamond Award, Temple's highest recognition given to an undergraduate by the Office of Student Affairs. Additionally, the South African was recognized on the 2024 Temple Trustee Ten as having one of the ten highest GPAs in the athletic department and was on the President's Honor Roll. In the classroom, he has a 3.94 GPA as a psychology major.Â
Raynor earns his third spot on the Academic All-Area team after being named the Performer of the Year last year. He also was a part of the silver medal at the Knecht Cup and bronze medal at the Dad Vails as well as earning gold medals in the pairs at the Head of the Schuylkill and Navy Day Regattas in the fall. The Marondera, Zimbabwe native has a 3.90 GPA earning his masters in mechanical engineering and was a member of the Temple Trustee Ten and was on the President's Honor Roll.Â
