Greene Leads Volleyball Against Villanova With 11 Kills

VILLANOVA, Pa. – The Temple Owls volleyball team (5-6) dropped the first match of the Wildcat Challenge on Friday to the host Villanova (6-4), 25-15, 25-23, 25-21, at Nevin Fieldhouse behind 24 combined kills from Abby Harrell and Campbell McKinnon. Freshman Christiana Greene led the Owls with 11 kills.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Villanova's McKinnon and Harrell led all players in the match with 12 kills, but it was McKinnon who hit a match-high .550.
The Owls' Greene hit a career-best .400 in the loss.
Both squads hit below .150 throughout the three sets and both teams had five team blocks in the match.
Individually, TU's Alyssa Finister led all players with five blocks.

SET 1 (VILL 25, TEM 17)

After Villanova scored the opening point, but Temple scored three straight times, including getting a kill from graduate student Taylor Davenport and an ace from freshman Mickhaila Murray ace.
Both teams hit under .100 in the first set with the Wildcats hitting. 098, but holding the Owls to -.024.
VU's Tara Garvey led all hitters in set one with a .400 hitting percentage and four kills.

SET 2 (VILL 25, TEM 23)

Villanova jumped out to 5-2 advantage, including a stretch of 4-0 as they got kills from McKinnon and Harrell.
Temple batted back to take a 11-7 lead, winning nine of the next 11 points, including a 6-0 run. During the run, the Owls battled back with two kills each from Greene and Davenport and block assists from Alyssa Finister and Ava Blascziek.
A solo block from Garvey and a kill by McKinnon helped the Wildcats reestablish their momentum with three quick points. Once again, the Owls scored two more of their own to regain a three-point lead, 13-10.
Down 13-10, Villanova took a 14-13 advantage with the help of back-to back kills by Young and one by McKinnon.
Villanova extended its lead to five points, 20-15, with back-to-back-to-back kills by Harrell (2) and Ozzie Ozonoh.
The Cherry and White didn't fade in the second set, rallying from five points down to tie the score 22-22. Christiana Greene had three of her six kills in the set, while Finister tacked on her third kill and a block assist from with Davenport.

SET 3 (VILL 25, TEM 17)

Seeing her first action of the match, Nalani McBride entered off the bench to cap off a 3-0 run with a service ace. Just like it did throughout the match, Villanova answered, this time winning four straight points with two kills by McKinnon and one from Harrelll, while Cat Young capped off the string with a service ace.
Over the next 17 points, the Owls tied the score on three occasions, but VU hung on to win the match win. The Wildcats won eight of the final 13 points.
