Volleyball Head Coach Hampton-Keith Earns 100th Career Win With Sweep of Marist

VILLANOVA, Pa. – Temple volleyball head coach Linda Hampton-Keith earned her 100th career win as freshman Sydney Jones led the Owls with 16 overall points, including a match-high 10 kills, four service aces, and seven digs. The Owls improved to 6-6 on Saturday afternoon by sweeping the Marist Red Foxes (0-10) to close out the Villanova Wildcat Challenge, 25-14, 25-20, 25-18 at Nevin Fieldhouse.  
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jones earned also four blocks, second behind senior Chelci Banks' five and also tied sophomore Lexi Yoza with a match-high four service aces.
  • As a team, Temple combined for 11 team blocks, holding the Red Foxes to a .012 hitting percentage.
  • Helping out the offense was the Owls' serve game which totaled 14 service aces in the sweep.
  • Sara Dasic and Taylor Miller combined for 12 kills, six kills each to lead the Foxes in the loss.
  • Following the match, freshman Christiana Greene and Jones were named to the all-tournament team for their play in the two-day tournament.
 
SET 1 (TEM 25, MAR 14)
  • Temple forced Marist to all an early timeout as Owls' hitter Sydney Jones connected with a pair of kills to push Temple to a 5-2 lead.
  • The Owls pushed their lead to nine points (16-7) when they went on a 7-2 run with the help of service aces from Lexi Yoza (2) and Taylor Davenport and a pair of block assists from Chelci Banks and Christiana Green.
  • The Owls' setter Yoza finished the set with three of her four service aces in the match to help the Owls pull away and win by 11 points.
 
SET 2 (TEM 25, MAR 20)
  • The Owls and the Red Foxes traded the lead 10 lead changes and 14 ties during set two.
  • Marist scored back-to-back points to retake the lead by one point, 18-17, but the Cherry and White pulled away by winning eight of the final 10 point. Jones, the Havertown, Pa. native  collected a kill, a block, and a service ace to end the set.
 
SET 3 (TEM 25 , MAR 18)
  • Temple won eight of the first 10 points, including a 6-0 run. During the Owls' rally the freshman Jones earned a pair of kills and a block assist.
  • TU increased its lead to nine points with another run that saw it reel off five straight points with a pair of aces from Jones and kills from Davenport and junior Alyssa Finister.
  • The Red Foxes went on a 4-0 run to close the lead to four points, 15-11, as Sara Dasic connected with two of her team-high six kills in the match.
  • Later in the set, Marist cut the Temple lead to three points on two occasions, but couldn't get any closer. The Cherry and White closed out the final set on a 4-0 run behind Jones' fourth ace, her 10th kill.
