Owls in the NFL - Wild Card Round

1.14.25 | Football

The NFL Wild Card Round took place this weekend, and our Owls were laser-focused on getting to the divisional round. With eight Owls on a playoff roster this season, we'll continue to see more of them compete against each other throughout the postseason with the goal of getting to New Orleans to battle for Super Bowl Glory. Let's check in to see how our Owls are progressing.

Washington's Jordan Magee (2019-23) and Tampa Bay's Todd Bowles (1982-85) met up in the Wild Card round on Sunday. Magee finished his playoff debut with one tackle on special teams. Magee appeared to have reinjured the hamstring that sidelined him during the regular season. After Washington's 23-20 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Magee is questionable on whether he'll return for the divisional round against the Detroit Lions.

Todd Bowles and the Buccaneers will now regroup during the offseason with the goal of improving the roster for the 2025-26 season where Bowles will start year three of the five-year contract he signed in 2022.

Green Bay's Brandon McManus (2009-12) made one of two field goal attempts in his return to Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday. McManus missed one from 38 yards out, and later in the game nailed a 26-yarder and an extra point in a game where the Packers struggled to get anything going against the Philadelphia Eagles. Following the 22-10 loss, McManus will become a free agent.

Dion Dawkins (2013-16) and the Buffalo Bills completed a 31-7 rout of the Denver Broncos. Dawkins and the offensive line made things easy for the Bills' backfield as the Bills marched down the field with consistency rushing for 210 yards and a touchdown. The Bills will now head to the divisional round to face the Baltimore Ravens (Sunday, Jan. 19, 6:30 p.m. ET, CBS).

Pittsburgh's Tyler Matakevich (2012-15) did not finish with any tackles in what was the last game of the Steelers' season. The Steelers lost on the road to their division rival Baltimore Ravens 28-14. Matakevich signed a one-year contract with the Steelers this past summer and is now expected to be a free agent.

Baltimore Ravens practice squad players Keith Kirkwood (2014-17), and William Kwenkeu will now head into the divisional round where the Ravens will take on Dawkins and the Buffalo Bills.

Detroit's Michael Niese (2016-21) and the Lions enjoyed a first round bye as they waited all weekend to see who their divisional round opponent will be. The Lions will now face Magee's Washington Commanders in Detroit in hopes of reaching the NFC Championship (Saturday, Jan. 18, 8:00 p.m. ET, FOX)..
