WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Former Temple University men's basketball guard Jamal Mashburn Jr. was selected by the Westchester Knicks with the eighth overall pick in the first round of the 2025 NBA G League Draft on Saturday afternoon. The Westchester Knicks serve as the NBA G League affiliate of the New York Knicks.
Mashburn Jr. starred in his lone season on North Broad during the 2024–25 campaign.
An Oscar Robertson Trophy Midseason Watch List honoree, Mashburn Jr. averaged 22.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 23 games while wearing the Cherry and White. The Miami native ranked second nationally in scoring and led the American Conference before a lower-body injury sidelined him for nine of the final 10 games of the season.
A two-time American Conference Player of the Week, Mashburn Jr. scored 20 or more points in 16 contests and topped the 30-point mark three times, including a career-best 34-point performance in a double-overtime win over Charlotte. In 10 AAC games, he averaged 24.4 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists.
Following his standout season, Mashburn Jr. earned NABC All-District First Team, All-ECAC First Team, All-American Conference Second Team and American Conference All-Freshman Team honors.
Mashburn's father, Jamal Mashburn Sr., played 12 seasons in the NBA with the Dallas Mavericks (1993–97), Miami Heat (1997–2000), Charlotte Hornets (2000–02) and New Orleans Hornets (2002–05). He averaged 19.1 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game across his career and was named an NBA All-Star in 2003.
Mashburn Jr. will likely join former Temple teammate Steve Settle III in the NBA's official minor league, which prepares players, coaches, officials, trainers and front office staff for the NBA while serving as the league's research and development laboratory. Settle III signed an Exhibit-10 contract with the Miami Heat before being waived earlier this month and is expected to play for Heat affiliate Sioux Falls Skyforce.
The Westchester Knicks open the 2025–26 season against the Delaware Blue Coats on Saturday, Nov. 8, in Wilmington, Del.
