Jamal Mashburn Jr. Named AAC & Big 5 Player of the Week

PHILADELPHIA - Graduate student Jamal Mashburn Jr. was named the American Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, it was announced by the league on Monday. This marks Mashburn Jr.'s second Player of the Week honor after leading Temple to a pair of home AAC victories. in addition, Mashburn Jr. was named Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the Week for the third time this season.
On Jan. 29, Mashburn Jr. delivered a career-high 34 points, guiding the Owls to a double-overtime win against Charlotte. He also contributed a season-high six rebounds and three assists while shooting 3-of-5 from three-point range.
Three days later, Mashburn Jr. scored 32 points in a 98-94 overtime victory over East Carolina for the Miami, Fla native's third 30-point game this season. Mashburn Jr. added 4 assists and shot 10-13 from the free-throw line.
In total, Mashburn Jr. averaged 33.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game while shooting 52.6% from the field and 62.5% from three-point range. He currently ranks first in the AAC and second nationally in scoring at 22.1 points per game.
Temple (14-8, 6-3 AAC) hits the road for its next two matchups, starting with a clash against South Florida (11-11, 4-5 AAC) on Thursday, Feb. 6. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN2, with tipoff set for 7:00 p.m. ET.
