PHILADELPHIA – Temple Athletics and the Office of Institutional Advancement are excited to announce the introduction of brand-new Competitive Excellence Funds, an exciting new initiative designed to provide expanded opportunities for donors to support student-athletes at Temple University.
Specifically designed to help student-athletes in the areas of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) opportunities, these newly created Competitive Excellence Funds will expand the pool of available resources for scholarships, creating a more competitive environment for Temple's student-athletes.
"The introduction of the Competitive Excellence Funds represents a transformative opportunity for Temple Athletics," Arthur Johnson, Vice President and Debbie and Stanley Lefkowitz '65 Director of Athletics, said. "This initiative not only enhances the student-athlete experience but also allows us to stay competitive at the highest levels. By empowering our donors to support student-athletes directly, we are providing them with the resources and opportunities they need to thrive both on the field and in life. Together, we can elevate Temple Athletics to new heights."
The Competitive Excellence Funds will complement the existing Owl Club Annual Fund, which has long supported the greatest needs across all Temple Athletics programs, including academic support, nutrition, mental health services, and medical care. These vital services will continue to be supported through the Owl Club Annual Fund, ensuring the ongoing success and well-being of our student-athletes.
As with the Owl Club Annual Fund, each program at Temple has its own sport-specific Competitive Excellence Fund. This structure allows head coaches to allocate resources to their athletes in a way that best meets the unique needs of their teams, ensuring that all Temple student-athletes have the tools they need to reach their highest potential.
"The Competitive Excellence Funds provide donors with a new mechanism to support student-athletes," Andrew Kelly, Interim President of the Owl Club, said. "Our membership is comprised of passionate and dedicated alumni and fans. We are excited for this new opportunity to directly contribute to the success of Temple's student-athletes."
Contributions to the Competitive Excellence Funds are tax deductible and will directly impact the lives of Temple student-athletes, providing critical support to ensure they thrive on and off the field. Donors will also receive priority points and additional benefits based on their contribution level, as outlined in the Owl Club Benefits chart.
