Temple Welcomes Cal Transfer Spencer Mahoney

5.14.25 | Men's Basketball

PHILADELPHIA – California transfer forward Spencer Mahoney has signed with the Temple University men's basketball team, head coach Adam Fisher announced Wednesday.

Mahoney, who will have three seasons of eligibility remaining, comes to North Philadelphia after stops at Cal and Washington State.

"We are excited to welcome Spencer Mahoney to the Temple basketball family," said Fisher. "Spencer's combination of size and shot-making ability will be a major asset for us next season. His experience in the ACC will bring tremendous value to our program, as he has competed and played for some outstanding coaches over the past two seasons."

In his lone season with the Golden Bears, Mahoney appeared in 27 games. He posted a season-high eight points against Mercyhurst, knocking down 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. He added seven points and five rebounds the game prior against Sacramento State.

In ACC action, the 6-foot-9 forward tallied five points against Pittsburgh and added six points against Miami (Fla.).

Mahoney redshirted as a true freshman at Washington State during the 2023-24 season.

"I chose Temple because of the winning culture that Coach Fisher instills in his players, along with being closer to home on the East Coast," said Mahoney.

Tapped as a four-star prospect by ESPN and a three-star, top-50 power forward by 247Sports, the Brooklyn, N.Y., native played at several highly regarded high school programs. He spent his freshman and sophomore years at Iona Prep (New Rochelle, N.Y.), his junior season at Xaverian (Brooklyn, N.Y.), and split his senior year between St. Benedict's Prep (Newark, N.J.) and Red Rock Academy (Las Vegas, Nev.). At Red Rock, he averaged 18 points and six rebounds during the spring semester.

Mahoney becomes the eighth newcomer signed to Temple's 2025-26 roster. He joins transfers Jamai Felt (Boston, Mass./Bowling Green), Derrian Ford (Magnolia, Ark./Arkansas State), Masiah Gilyard (Brooklyn, N.Y./Manhattan), Gavin Griffiths (Simsbury, Conn./Nebraska) and CJ Hines (Atlanta, Ga./Alabama State), along with incoming freshmen Ayuba Bryant (Antwerp, Belgium) and Cam Wallace (Philadelphia, Pa./Westtown).
