PHILADELPHIA - Temple University student-athletes have once again demonstrated academic excellence, as seven athletic programs have earned the NCAA's prestigious Academic Progress Rate (APR) Public Recognition Award.
These awards are presented annually to teams ranking in the top 10 percent of their sport nationally in multi-year APR performance, including ties. The NCAA's APR is a team-based metric that accounts for the eligibility, retention, and graduation of each student-athlete, providing a real-time measure of academic progress.
The seven Temple programs receiving Public Recognition Awards for their academic achievement are:
"These achievements are a testament to the hard work of our student-athletes and the unwavering support from our coaches, faculty, athletic support staff, and the Nancy & Donald Resnick Academic Support Center for Student-Athletes staff," Vice President/Debbie and Stanley Lefkowitz '65 Director of Athletics Arthur Johnson said. "Their dedication ensures our student-athletes thrive both academically and athletically, and we're proud to see that reflected in these honors."
Temple's multi-year APR score stands at 985, with a single-year score of 987, showcasing strong academic consistency across all sports. Since the 2015–16 academic year, Temple has now earned 43 Public Recognition Awards from the NCAA—tied for 11th among all FBS institutions over that span.
In total, nine Temple programs earned a perfect single-year APR score of 1000, including: Men's Cross Country, Men's Golf, Women's Cross Country, Women's Fencing, Field Hockey, Women's Gymnastics, Women's Soccer, Women's Tennis, and Women's Volleyball.
Men's basketball also continues its remarkable academic streak, earning a perfect 1000 multiyear APR score for the eighth straight year. The program led all men's basketball teams in the American Athletic Conference in multiyear APR and was the only team in the conference to achieve a perfect score.
Nationally, Temple men's basketball stands among elite company as one of just 25 Division I programs out of 362 to earn a perfect multiyear APR.
Women's soccer has distinguished itself as one of the premier academic programs in the country. The team has earned a perfect single-year APR score of 1000 for 11 consecutive years and has achieved a perfect multi-year APR score for the past nine years.
Temple is one of only five women's soccer programs nationwide—alongside Columbia, Duke, Lehigh, and Indiana University–Indianapolis (IUPUI)—to record a perfect multi-year APR every year since 2015–16. Additionally, Temple women's soccer was the only program in the American Athletic Conference to post a perfect multi-year APR score of 1000 this year.
