Temple Tops Penn in Five Sets to Cap Non-Conference Slate

9.23.25 | Women's Volleyball

PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's volleyball (10-4) took down the University of Pennsylvania (6-4) in five sets to conclude non-conference play Tuesday evening at The Palestra. Three Owls recorded double-digit kills: Leia Harper with a career-high 24, Christiana Greene with 13, and Mickhaila Murray with a career-high 14.

HOW IT HAPPEPED
SET 1 (Temple 22, Penn 25)

The Owls trailed by as many as eight in the opening set but responded with a 7-0 run behind kills from Leia Harper, Mickhaila Murray, Christiana Greene, and Alyssa Finister to close the gap to 18-16.
Temple ended the set on a 3-0 run with blocks from Katie Hickey and Harper but ultimately fell short, 25-22.
Harper led the Owls with five kills, hitting .385 in the set.

SET 2 (Temple 25, Penn 20)
Greene and Murray sparked a 5-0 Temple run with a pair of kills, aided by blocks from Finister and Daniella Gonzalez Murati to give the Owls a 10-5 lead. Penn answered with a 4-0 run to tie the set at 11-11.
Temple's defense came alive midway through the set, posting one solo block and four assisted blocks to hold a 15-11 advantage.
The Owls maintained their lead and claimed the second set, 25-20.

SET 3 (Temple 25, Penn 21)
Temple started strong with a 4-0 run to take a 6-3 lead, featuring points from Harper, Greene, Finister, and Murray.
Back-to-back kills from Harper and Gonzalez Murati pushed the Owls' lead to 15-10.
Greene tallied her 10th kill of the match as Temple extended the lead to 20-16.
The Owls closed out set three, 25-21, hitting .342 with 20 kills in the set.

SET 4 (Temple 23, Penn 25)
The fourth set was a back and forth battle as the set saw 10 ties and five lead changes until Penn gained momentum with a late 3-0 run to go up 23-20.
Greene and Murray responded with a block and kill to cut the deficit to 23-22.
However, the Quakers held on to take the set, 25-23, and force a fifth.

SET 5 (Temple 15, Penn 13)
Harper opened the final set with back-to-back kills to tie it at 2-2.
A decisive 6-0 run by Temple gave the Owls the edge they needed to secure the win, 15-13.
