Women’s Rowing Announces Staff Additions Ahead of 2025 Fall Season

9.3.25 | Women's Rowing

PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's rowing head coach Rebecca Grzybowski announced the addition of two members to the coaching staff. Emily Maxwell joins Temple as an assistant coach and Rebecca Serrato joins the staff as the director of operations.

"Adding Emily (Maxwell) to our staff is like finding our missing piece – she brings a wealth of experience in coaching, rigging, equipment management, and trailer driving, making her an invaluable asset to our team," Grzybowski said. "I am confident that Emily will significantly contribute to our program's pursuit of a team championship in the inaugural Mid-American Conference season."

Maxwell is a graduate of Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA where she rowed on the club rowing team. Her novice 4+ went undefeated throughout the regular season, with a finals appearance in the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Championship. In her varsity year she went on to a first-place finish at Head of the Hooch regatta that fall. After 2 years of rowing for her university, she joined the pre-elite rowing program out of the Atlanta Rowing Club. Going on to compete at Head of the Charles, Atlanta Erg Sprints, Club Nationals and Canadian Henley in various sculling boats.

Most recently, she was the club manager at the Atlanta Rowing Club managing boathouse logistics, equipment, programs, trailer logistics, administrative and IT and all day-to-day operations. She transformed all facility, equipment and record keeping systems while at the club. Also, while in Atlanta, she was the Head Coach at Georgia Institute of Technology, leading the varsity men's and women's programs in her first season officially with the team. That first year she led the team to medal finishes in the women's varsity 4+ and men's varsity 4+ at Head of the Schyulkill, Head of the Hooch, and SIRA. Then going on to lead both squads to medal finishes at various fall and spring regattas the following year.

"Rebecca's (Serrato) enthusiasm for creating accessible data will allow us to gain further insight into our training processes and help the team achieve new levels of speed on and off the water. Her organizational skills will keep things smooth behind the scenes and provide additional support as we pursue high-performance in all areas." Grzybowski said on the hiring of Serrato.

Before joining Temple University, Serrato served as an AVID Tutor at El Capitan High School in Merced, California, and later worked as a substitute teacher for the Merced Union High School District. She earned her bachelor's degree in applied mathematics with a concentration in Data Science from the University of California, Merced, and is currently pursuing a master's degree in Sport Business at Temple University. As an alum of Tracy High School in Tracy, California, Serrato was a member of the school's basketball team.
