Owls in the NFL – Week 1

The Temple Owls opened the season with a 2-0 start and some former Owls opened up the NFL season with some noteworthy performances.
Two games featured matchups between former Owls. Sunday's early window pitted Atlanta's DE/LB Arnold Ebiketie (2017-20) against Tampa Bay's LB/DE Haason Reddick (2013-16) and head coach Todd Bowles (1983-86). Both former Owls made an impact for their team with Reddick posting three tackles and a sack in his debut with the Buccaneers. Ebiketie logged five tackles, including a tackle for loss. In the end, Tampa Bay pulled out the win 23-20.
In the late window, Detroit's CB Rock Ya-Sin (2018) and TE Kenny Yeboah (2016-19) went to Green Bay to face the Packers and kicker Brandon McManus (2009-12). Neither Yeboah nor Ya-Sin posted any stats while McManus scored nine points (2-2 FGs, 3-3 PATs) in the 27-13 Packers' victory.
Washington's LB Jordan Magee (2019-23) and DE/LB Jacob Martin (2014-17) helped the Commanders to a 21-6 victory over the New York Giants. Martin had one tackle and Magee made a mark on special teams.
Jacksonville's CB Christian Braswell (2017-20) saw action in a 26-10 win over Carolina. Tennessee's TE David Martin-Robinson (2018-23) saw action in the 20-12 loss at Denver.
OL Matt Hennessy (2016-19) was active but did not play for San Francisco in a 17-13 win at Seattle.
The marquee Sunday Night Football matchup between the Bills and the Ravens was the highlight of the weekend. Buffalo's LT Dion Dawkins (2013-16) and SAF Sam Franklin (2016-19) helped the Bills pull out a 41-40 win after trailing by 15 late in the fourth quarter. The Bills stunned the Ravens with 16 points in the final four minutes, including a 32-yard field goal with three seconds remaining.
Currently, three former Owls are on practice squads: Baltimore – WR Keith Kirkwood (2014-17); Detroit – OL Michael Niese (2020-21); and San Francisco - WR Robbie Chosen (2011-15). Kicker Maddux Trujillo (2024) is on Indianapolis' injured list.
