Griffiths Recognized as American Conference, Big 5 Player of the Week

IRVINGTON, Texas – Following a pair of impressive outings, including a historic performance against UTSA, the American Conference and the Philadelphia Big 5 have honored Temple University junior guard Gavin Griffiths as their player of the week.
In two wins, Griffiths averaged 18.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 4.5 blocks and 2.0 steals while shooting 42.9 percent from 3-point range (9-for-21).
The Nebraska transfer opened the week with 13 points and seven rebounds, adding two assists, two blocks and two steals in a 76-73 win at Charlotte on Dec. 30.
Against UTSA on Saturday, the Simsbury, Conn., native finished with a season-high 23 points to go with five rebounds, two assists, seven blocks and two steals. He became the first NCAA Division I player in at least 30 seasons to record 23 points, seven blocks and six 3-pointers in a game, according to ESPN.
Following the week, Griffiths now ranks second in the conference in 3-point percentage (39.1) and blocks per game (2.14), fourth in 3-pointers made per game (2.57) and 15th in steals per game (1.43).
Griffiths and the Owls return to action in North Philadelphia against East Carolina on Wednesday at 7 p.m. inside the Liacouras Center.
