IRVING, Texas – Following Friday's 2-1 comeback win over Florida Atlantic on the road, Marin Selak, Taimoor Hussain and Carlos Rojas earned American Conference weekly honors, as announced by the conference on Monday, Oct. 5. Selak and Hussain also earned Philly Soccer Six honors.
Marin Selak – Defensive Player of the Week
Selak earned Defender of the Week honors after playing all 90 minutes and being a key component of the Owls' win over FAU. Florida Atlantic tallied 22 shots during the match, but only five were on target. The captain was also a big reason that Florida Atlantic's seven corner kicks did not result in a goal. This is the first Defensive Player of the Week honor for the Hannover, Germany, native. Selak's incredible defending also earned him Philly Soccer Six Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Taimoor Hussain – Freshman of the Week
Hussain earned Freshman of the Week honors for the first time after scoring the game-winning goal for Temple in the 70th minute of the Owls' 2-1 win over Florida Atlantic. The victory gave Temple its first win of the season and handed the defending conference champions their first loss of the year. The Harrison, N.J., native played 86 minutes during the win and made the most of his only shot, slotting it off the far right post and into the back of the net. Hussain has played in nine games this season and has started eight of them. His performance on Friday also earned him Philly Soccer Six Rookie of the Week honors.
Carlos Rojas – Honorable Mention
Junior forward Carlos Rojas earned American Conference Honorable Mention honors for the second time this season after scoring his fourth goal of the campaign against Florida Atlantic on Friday. Rojas knocked in the equalizer in the 69th minute off an assist from Lukas Stefaner. The Valencia, Venezuela native leads the team in goals scored, points (8), shots (25) and shots on goal (15).
