No. 14 Fencing Sets Sights on NCAA Regionals

HAVERFORD, PA- The No. 14 Temple fencing team is set to travel to Haverford, PA for the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional hosted by Temple University on Saturday, March 7th. The Owls will be represented by the maximum allotment of 12 fencers, each aiming to secure a spot in the NCAA Championships.Â

Last week, Temple competed at the NIWFA Championships, securing its 30th consecutive team title, where Natalie Adams-Kim claimed her first individual foil championship.Â

Additionally, the foil and epee squads won team titles, while the saber squad finished second.Â

Six other Owls secured top-10 finishes. Epeeists Grace Smith, Lindsey Minor, and Anne-Mai Melles all reached the round of eight and secured medal finishes, placing sixth, seventh, and eighth, respectively. In her debut, Keely Carter led the sabre squad with a strong runner-up showing, notching decisive 15-4 victories over Ashlyn Leunge (Stevens) and Asher Boynton (Tufts) before advancing to the final. Fellow freshman Reese Birnstill joined her in the semifinals, defeating FDU's Carmen Bolt-Turner and Rutgers' Dina Dank en route to a third-place finish. Saberist Alexandra Papapetropoulou added another top-10 finish for Temple, taking ninth place in foil. Â
This weekend's regional competition will be hosted by Temple University at the Alumni Field House in Ardmore, PA with general admission tickets available for $15. Â

The regional championships serve as a qualifier for the NCAA Championships, which will be held March 19-22 in South Bend, Indiana. Â
