Women’s Rowing Finish Third Overall at Inaugural MAC Championships

5.16.26 | Women's Rowing

YPSILANTI, MICH. – Temple women's rowing fought the elements along with strong competition within the Mid-American Conference in today's first ever women's rowing championships. The Owls finished on the podium in the Varsity Eight and Second Varsity Eight in the point races to help to a strong first showing in the MAC.

Teams faced multiple delays throughout the morning due to lightning in the area. The initial times were pushed back about an hour later than the original timeframe. The varsity eight boat came out and raced at 10:17 am and finished in second place. The boat was led by coxswain Sofia Henningsen and she and the rest of the Owls finished in 6:40.80, just three seconds off the lead of UMass, the eventual champion. Temple earned 21 points with that second-place finish.

Not long after, the second varsity eight got their race started. The rain and elements also started at the same time. Not only were teams battling each other, but they had to handle a heavy rain and crosswind as well. Temple, coxswained by Eve Keesecker, performed strong and fought the elements to a third-place finish in 6:56.10 and 12 more points bringing the total to 33 at the end of the first two races.

The weather remained strong and forced another weather delay. Teams would be waiting until about 12:20 pm before action picked back up again. The final points race was the varsity four and for Temple the boat was coxswained by Cassidy Burns. The Owls finished in fourth place in a time of 7:43.50 and added another five points which brought the total to 38.

The final two races of the day were the third varsity eight and the second varsity four. Temple's 3V8 wrapped up in a time of 7:19.30 for a third-place finish with as many boats competing. The 2V4 held a close battle with the University of Delaware for second place in the final race of the day, but the Blue Hens edged out the Owls by only three seconds. Temple finished in third in 7:43.10.
