TEMPE, Ariz. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced that both the Temple University men's and women's tennis teams earned ITA Community Service honors.
The Temple men were selected as the ITA Northeast Regional Community Service Award winner, while the Temple women earned honorable mention recognition in the Northeast Region.
"I am extremely proud of our men's and women's tennis teams for their commitment to serving the community and making a positive impact on local youth," Temple Director of Tennis Jeff Brandes said. "Our student-athletes embraced the opportunity to give back, share their passion for tennis and serve as positive role models. This recognition reflects the character, leadership and dedication of our teams and the pride they take in representing Temple University both on and off the court."
The men's team partnered with Temple University Campus Police to host a weekly tennis clinic at nearby Paul L. Dunbar School every Tuesday morning during the fall and spring semesters. The clinic culminated with a field trip to Temple's outdoor courts.
The Temple women held roughly a dozen tennis clinics at the North Central Community Center on Norris Street, working with local youth on Mondays and Fridays.
The Temple men's team will learn if it has earned national recognition when the ITA announces its national award winners Tuesday, June 16.
